Parisian museums for young children
During our stay in Paris, we visited a few museums that are particularly suitable for young children. For example, we visited the Musée de l’Homme located on the Place du Trocadéro. It’s a beautiful and comprehensive museum, very interesting, but a bit challenging for very young children who cannot read yet. We had to read the signs to them in simpler terms to help them understand.
Our exploration continued with the Ménagerie du Jardin des Plantes. It’s a charming little zoo—I emphasize “little”—but with lovely greenery and well-maintained historical buildings that are sometimes truly magnificent.
We enjoyed our visit, although the entry fee seemed quite high considering the size of the zoo and the limited activities inside.
Discovery of the Muséum national d’Histoire naturelle in Paris
We continued our exploration with the Muséum d’Histoire naturelle, and what a wonderful discovery it was! We spent half a day there, which is really the minimum if you take your time and want to see everything. A helpful tip: remember to ask for additional tickets at the entrance to visit the Children’s Gallery, where kids can explore animals and the Earth through numerous activities. Unfortunately, we didn’t know about this and missed out on that part of the museum.
The museum spans four floors, each dedicated to a different universe. On the ground floor, you’ll find the aquatic world—seas, oceans… Moving up to the first floor, there are mammals, insects…
Special mention goes to the Grand Gallery of Evolution and its numerous perfectly represented animals. It’s quite incredible—you’ll feel like you’re in the middle of a herd.
There’s also a gallery dedicated to extinct and endangered animals, sadly. Here, we discovered animals whose existence we weren’t even aware of.
Just like the collections it houses, the building itself is stunning, entirely constructed of wood with magnificent moldings, making it worth a visit in its own right.
